Cameo says:So much better than the 70’s version where the leads have zero chemistry, which is the most important part of the movie. They really captured the spirit of the book, the story of a newly rich man who fulfills his ultimate dream to reunite w/ his first true love (who comes from old money) but the reality can never live up to the fantasy that he’s painted in his head. Told through the eyes of a writer who watches it all from a far as the dream becomes a nightmare & we learn the past cannot be repeated no matter how much we might want it to be. Beyond the love story is a deeper look into the excesses of capitalism, the effects of modernism on culture & individuals (brilliantly highlighted in this new adaptation by it’s amazing soundtrack & stunning visuals), & questions of idealism vs reality.
